Happy New Year, everyone!
With the new year always comes a time of self-reflection and goal setting. I never used to do this as a kid – I didn’t see the point. But now I think it’s a great way to look back on everything you accomplished the year before as well look ahead to what successes you want to make happen in the new year. It pushes me to work harder!
I want to start by looking back on my travel goals for 2019.
- Visit a new continent
- Visit the Grand Canyon
- Take a guided group tour (preferably with Intrepid Travel)
I met 2/3 of those goals! I spent two weeks in China, so I can now include Asia in my visited continents list, and I planned on an epic two-week road trip with Paige through the American Southwest. Of course we had to stop at the Grand Canyon and take it all in!
I never had a chance to take that group trip. I really slowed down on traveling once the new school year started, but it was important that I take the time to focus on my career and becoming the best teacher I can be for my students!
So, looking into 2020, what are my travel goals?
1. Take a Group Tour with Intrepid Travel
Since I didn’t accomplish this in 2019 I’m going to drag it into the new year with me. I think these group tours look awesome! You meet up with other travelers and they have such great pre-planned itineraries, so it takes off all of the stress of planning a trip yourself!
2. Visit 3 New States
I am 37/50 on my long-term goal of visiting all 50 before I turn 30. I really want to make sure I keep focusing on that goal all year long! Most of the states I haven’t visited are Northwest and Northeast, so it’s going to start taking more planning to get me there. I’d visited all of the midwest and the south!
3. Take a Solo Trip
This is something I’ve been wanting to do for a while now, but I hadn’t prioritized it. This year I want to take a trip on my own and experience what solo travel is like. I’m even going to let you all pick where I go! Check out my 2019 Wrap-Up to see that full announcement.
4. Fly with My Dad
For those of you who don’t know, my dad is a captain at American Airlines! I’ve flown in smaller planes with him, but I’ve never been on a commercial 737 trip with him. That is something I really want to make happen this year because next year he’s retiring! I think I’d like to fly out to San Francisco or Austin with him, but we’ll see where this year takes us!
Along with setting goals for myself, I’m also focusing on one specific word that I want to define 2020. I’ve chosen the word Nourish. Nourish has two meanings:
- Provide with the food or other substances necessary for growth, health, and good condition.
- Keep (a feeling or belief) in one’s mind, typically for a long time.
I want to nourish my body by focusing on the food I’m eating, how I’m treating my body in regards to exercise and stress. I want to nourish my soul by focusing on self-care and self-love. Are the people I’m surrounding myself with nourishing me? I want to nourish others by holding onto the mindset that we must treat others with kindness. This includes kind actions, keeping patience even when I’m frustrated, and reminding myself of the good in every person.
What are your goals for 2020? Leave them in the comments below. I’d love to know!
